Agentic AI Generative AIThe frequency and volume of sophisticated cyberattacks have increased dramatically over recent years, posing an existential threat to both corporations and nation states. Threats are evolving faster than defense including the recent emergence of agentic AI cyberattacks.
NEC’s Corporate Cybersecurity Division (CCD) is responsible for safeguarding the company against cyberattacks. A central part of this mission is the early identification of emerging threats, carried out by NEC’s cyber threat intelligence (CTI) specialists through the NEC cyberthreat intelligence cycle.
What is the NEC intelligence cycle? The series of steps that NEC takes to gather, analyze and generate the information necessary to take proactively protect against and reactively respond to cyber threats.
NEC’s CTI specialists have traditionally carried out cognitively heavy and time-consuming cyber threat analysis manually – monitoring threat actor activity, emerging vulnerabilities, attack campaigns and geopolitical developments across numerous sources. However, analyst capacity is limited and trained experts are scarce worldwide, so as the volume of new threats grow, the timely deployment of cyber defense measures slows.
To address this gap, NEC Laboratories Europe, in collaboration with CCD, developed AutoReport, an agentic AI platform that automates several daily tasks of CTI analysts by monitoring, extracting and analyzing relevant cyber threat intelligence information from a wide range of sources.
NEC AutoReport uses generative AI to automatically gather intelligence according to the instruction and needs of the CTI experts. Customizable, it mimics the decision making of human CTI specialists, catering to specific organizational needs, at a greatly accelerated pace.
In a comprehensive NEC benchmarking analysis, AutoReport by NEC led leading LLMs in identifying relevant cyber threats gathered from publicly available online information.
Cybersecurity is about helping our experts focus on what truly matters, even amid information overload and constant noise. The tools we build must deliver accurate insights and integrate seamlessly into the CTI analyst’s workflow.
Deployed in pilot testing in January 2023, AutoReport quickly strengthened NEC’s cyber intelligence capabilities, evolving into an active AI-driven defense layer against malicious threats. It now contributes to the technology assets of NEC’s CyIOC, a next generation cybersecurity service that leverages NEC’s proprietary intelligence and AI to protect the company and its global customer base, including nation states.
