Generative AI applications for cybersecurity intelligence

One of ISA’s main application areas is cybersecurity intelligence. Security teams need to understand information coming from many different sources, including cyber threat intelligence reports, vulnerability databases, alerts, system observations and open-source intelligence. ISA develops generative AI technologies that help analysts turn this data into structured knowledge, explanations and actionable recommendations.

Our work combines large language models, agentic workflows, semantic search, knowledge representation and cyber threat intelligence standards. These technologies support analysts in extracting relevant information, correlating it with monitored systems and understanding how emerging threats may affect their organization. 

A key focus of our research is the private and controlled use of LLMs in sensitive environments. Cybersecurity tasks often involve confidential data, such as internal alerts, logs, hostnames, IP addresses or vulnerability information. ISA develops privacy-preserving techniques that allow organizations to benefit from external or third-party LLMs while reducing unnecessary exposure of sensitive information. This includes anonymization, controlled information disclosure and mechanisms to preserve the usefulness of AI-generated answers while protecting sensitive data. 

By combining generative AI with human expertise, ISA supports faster threat understanding, improved situational awareness and more effective cybersecurity decision-making. 

AutoReport: AI-driven cyber threat intelligence for the NEC CyIOC

AutoReport is NLE’s agentic AI platform for cyber threat intelligence (CTI). It automates the collection, analysis and dissemination of CTI, helping security specialists rapidly understand attack methods, affected assets, likely targets and possible mitigation actions. 

AutoReport plays an important role in NEC’s next-generation security ecosystem, contributing to the NEC CyIOC and NEC’s Security Deep Research product line. Within the CyIOC environment, AutoReport provides an AI-driven intelligence layer that helps transform cyber threat information into decision support for security operations. 

The CyIOC platform is designed to help global enterprises improve situational awareness and accelerate incident response. In this context, AutoReport supports security teams by identifying relevant changes in the threat landscape, recognizing emerging risks earlier and reducing the manual effort required to move from information gathering to mitigation planning. 

Looking ahead, ISA is advancing the integration of generative AI into cybersecurity operations, working with NEC's global security portfolio and European research partners to develop intelligent, privacy-aware and scalable technologies for cyber defense. Through this work, the group continues to expand the practical application of AI for threat analysis, situational awareness and security decision support.
