Biography
Joao Girao studied Computer Science and Telecommunications at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, and then worked in research at NEC’s research laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany, for about 12 years. At NEC, he explored security and networking research problems in different environments: from tiny sensors in a mesh and moving vehicles, all the way to tackling problems of identity and access management in and across large organizations.
After NEC, Joao moved to Facebook (now Meta), where he spent six years working in their security teams on the detection of both internal and external threats; he was part of a diverse team that included operational staff, software developers and managers across all areas and products of the company. For the past year, Joao has been working on a personal project – more about that in the future!
