Dr. Konstantinos Gkiotsalitis

Biography
Dr. Konstantinos Gkiotsalitis is Assistant Professor of Data Science in Transportation Engineering at the Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of Twente, The Netherlands (2018-today). From 2012 until 2018, he held the roles of Research Associate and Research Scientist at the Intelligent Transportation Systems group of NEC Laboratories Europe, Heidelberg, Germany.
He received his BSc (5-year diploma) in Civil Engineering and his Ph.D. from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He has also received his MSc in Transport and Sustainable Development from Imperial College London and University College London.
Dr. Gkiotsalitis has served as Member and Overseas Champion of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation in the UK from 2012 until 2015. He has also served as Paper Review Coordinator of the Transit Management and Performance committee (AP010) at the Transportation Research Board (2019-today).

Research
Dr. Gkiotsalitis has more than 40 scientific papers and more than 60 conference papers in the areas of Operations Research and Public Transport/Passenger Mobility.
He is the co-inventor of eight patents and he has been involved in 17 national and European research projects in the areas of passenger transport, smart cities, logistics, intelligent transportation systems and mobility-as-a-service. He is Guest Editor at the EURO Journal on Transportation and Logistics, Reviewer Coordinator of the Transit Management and Performance Committee (AP010) at the Transportation Research Board (2019-today), and organizer of the Special Session on Intelligent Public Transport at IEEE ITSC (2020-today).
Dr. Gkiotsalitis has:
• Received the 2022 Moshe Givoni Prize for the best paper of the year in Transport Reviews
• Been selected at the 2015 NEC Corporation OpenHouse in Tokyo, Japan to present REFLEX, one of the promising NEC innovations of 2015
• Received the best BSc thesis award in Greece in the area of Transport and Mobility by ECOPOLIS (Athens, 2011)
