Dr. Vincenzo Sciancalepore

Principal Research Scientist

Vincenzo is a Principal Researcher at NEC Laboratories Europe, Germany. His current research focuses on Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC), semantic communications, and virtualized Radio Access Networks (vRAN), with a growing emphasis on Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and resilient networks for defense applications. Previously, he worked on network virtualization, network slicing, and edge computing. He serves as NEC's standard delegate actively contributing to the ETSI RIS and ETSI ISAC ISGs, and is a member of the IEEE Emerging Technologies Standing Committee (ETC), where he leads initiatives on RIS. He holds the Italian national habilitation as Full Professor in Telecommunications, issued by MIUR. Vincenzo has been involved in numerous European projects and has authored several international research publications and patents. He currently serves as Innovation Project Manager of the H2020-funded project 6G-GOALS, which investigates and designs new solutions for semantic communications in 6G systems. He is a member of IEEE ComSoc (S'11–M'15–SM'19). He received his M.Sc. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering and Telematics Engineering in 2011 and 2012, respectively, and in 2015 received a double Ph.D. from Politecnico di Milano and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. From 2011 to 2015, he was a Research Assistant at IMDEA Networks, where he focused on inter-cell coordinated scheduling for LTE-Advanced networks and device-to-device communication. He was awarded the national prize for the best Ph.D. thesis in communication technologies (Wireless and Networking) by GTTI in 2015.
